Zika virus was found in a doctor and his daughter in Pune city of Maharashtra, health department was on alert mode.

A doctor and his daughter have been found infected with Zika virus in Pune city of Maharashtra. Zika virus has been found in both a 15-year-old girl and her father. After which the health department has come on alert mode.

A 46-year-old doctor and his teenage daughter have been confirmed to be infected with Zika virus, the departmental official said that on June 21, his report confirmed that he is infected with Zika virus infection.

Recently, the doctor showed symptoms like fever and rashes, after which he was admitted to a private hospital. The medical facility sent his blood samples to the city-based National Institute of Virology (NIV) for examination.

After he was found infected, blood samples of five members of his family were collected and sent for examination, the official said. Investigation revealed that her 15-year-old daughter was also found infected with the Zika virus.

The Zika virus disease is spread by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, which is also known to spread infections such as dengue and chikungunya.

The official said that after these two cases were reported in the city, the PMC health department has started surveillance.

Fogging is being done in the area

He said that although no other suspected case has been found in the area, the authorities have started taking precautionary measures such as fogging and fumigation to prevent mosquito breeding.

He said, mosquito samples have been collected by the state health department. We have started spreading awareness among the general public in the area and have given instructions to monitor the health of pregnant women in the area. Zika generally does not cause serious complications, but if a pregnant woman gets infected, it can cause microcephaly in the fetus.
