IGNOU launches MBA in Healthcare and Hospital Management

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the launch of its new MBA Programme in Healthcare and Hospital Management.

New Delhi, June 25, 2024 – Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the launch of its new MBA Programme in Healthcare and Hospital Management. This innovative Programme aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to efficiently manage healthcare facilities and organizations.

IGNOU Vice Chancellor Dr Nageswara Rao emphasized the growing importance of specialized management education in the healthcare sector. He said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the critical need for effective healthcare management. Our new MBA Programme is designed to prepare professionals who can address the unique challenges faced by healthcare institutions.”

The MBA in Healthcare and Hospital Management will cover a wide range of subjects including Healthcare Economics, Hospital Administration, Health Informatics, and Public Health Policy. The curriculum is structured to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills through case studies, internships and industry projects.

Program Coordinator Dr. Shashi Bala Singh shared her excitement for the launch. “We have collaborated with industry experts to ensure that our curriculum is up-to-date and relevant to current industry requirements. Our aim is to develop leaders who can innovate and improve healthcare.”

Eligibility Criteria

Students are eligible to apply for this program only if they have a bachelor’s degree of a minimum of three years duration with at least 50 percent marks, 45 percent marks for candidates coming from reserved categories.

Students have to pay a fee per semester. In the first semester and second semester, students have to pay Rs 15,500. Students will have to pay Rs 19,500 for the third semester and Rs 17,500 for the fourth semester.

The Master of Business Administration in Healthcare and Hospital Management Programme will consist of 112 credits in four semesters. The first and second semesters will have seven core courses with four credits each. However, the third and fourth semesters will consist of specialization courses. In the third semester, students will have to choose a project and practical, each carrying six credits, and specialization courses carrying four credits. In the practical course, students will be posted in healthcare institutions and hospitals and will have the experience of learning practical skills and working in a hospital setting. Students will have to do a three-month internship in any healthcare institution or hospital during the fourth semester.
